I started college as a pre-pharmacy major. After taking my first nutrition class freshman year, I changed my major to nutritional sciences. I was a nutritional science major for one semester. When I met with my advisor, she told me, “to do anything further with this degree, you’ll need to transfer to another school.”Â
That was the conversation.Â
I was 19 years old at the time. I didn’t ask more questions. I believed advisors were supposed to be right.Â
I was on scholarship, I didn’t even have a car. The thought of transferring wasn’t something I could even afford to think about.
I switched my major to business marketing and minored in communication arts. After graduation, I worked in corporate America and spent the next 5 years of my life feeling as if I missed my calling.
For those that may be considering entering the field of Nutrition and Dietetics (or changing careers), I hope to shed some light and guidance for those pursuing this career.
